Mother of missing children seeks Amber Alert changes

Tina Porter, the mother of two missing Independence children, made a brief emotional appeal Monday night for Independence officials to help change the way Amber Alerts are issued.

Porter asked the City Council to write government representatives to help adjust the procedure “to allow law enforcement to have more power” with the Amber Alert process.

Porter added that she thought Independence police worked hard to find her children when they disappeared in June, but added, “I know they would have done more if they could have.”

Police did not issue an alert in the Porter case because the children were with their father, who had visitation rights.

In a subsequent interview, Porter said the “parental abduction” provisions of the Amber Alert criteria need to be changed...

Note: I don't now... I don't know...
I would hate to see when a father (or mother, for that matter) is going to be chased by police just because his ex is "trigger happy" or is trying to play the system... I simply don't know if this is such a good idea.
